I have really sensitive skin. Which products do you recommend?

One of the joys of making handcrafted soap is that we can offer relief to those afflicted with sensitive skin. Please try our Carrot and Honey Soap this is made with no added color or fragrance. Another recommendation is to use our soaps made with essential oil blends. These soaps can be found on the Essential Oil Soap page.

As with any product - please discontinue use if irritation occurs - and avoid use near the eyes.

Your descriptions are sometimes strange, what's the deal with that?

Do you believe we actually get asked this question? We don't find our descriptions strange - just, well - descriptive! It's hard to get a scent across the computer screen - so we often relate it to a feeling. We'll take strange as a compliment though. Thanks :)

What's so special about handmade soap?

Besides being crafted from wholesome ingredients, handmade soap retains its natural glycerin. Glycerin is a humectant which aids in keeping moisture next to your skin. Big commercial soap corporations remove glycerin from their product to sell to various industries. To them the glycerin is worth more than the soap. BooHiss!!! Glycerin is a wonderful byproduct of the soapmaking process!

Some soaps available on the market today aren't even soap - they are synthetic detergent bars. We craft small batches of true soap with ingredients we can pronounce and all the glycerin is left intact, ready to pamper your skin.

What does limited edition mean?

Our limited edition products are not available in our year round line. Most of the time they're seasonally inspired but they're also reserved for when we feel like making something crazy! If we find that a product becomes popular we will add it to our year round line (like the pumpkin spice and Jenny J's), otherwise there's only a limited amount - so get 'em while you can :)

Is your soap made with lye?

SOAP CANNOT BE MADE WITHOUT LYE. If someone is trying to tell you differently, they are either greatly misinformed or quite simply, they're lying. Many soaps found in stores today are not soaps at all. They are considered detergents. Read the ingredients on a bar of store bought soap. Most things can't even be pronounced and often they contain chemicals that allow the company to manufacture a cheaper bar, thus, raising their profit margin. Also, many commercial soaps are made with tallow, an animal byproduct.

Real soap is made by mixing oils, lye and water --- which causes a chemical reaction, turning the mixture into what is known as soap. However, this is not the soap that our Great Grandmothers made. That soap was certainly great for laundry, but not necessarily our skin, as granny often had a tendency to use way too much lye. Today, the art of soapmaking is an exact science with precise measurements.

The process in which the mixture becomes soap is called saponification. The soap is then removed from its molds, cut into bars and allowed to cure for 4-6 weeks or longer. After the saponification process is complete….the lye is gone. It is not present in the soap anymore. What is left is a natural bar of real soap with the glycerin intact. The addition of botanicals and essential oils make up a wide variety of soaps, each one catering to different tastes and sometimes used for certain skin conditions.

Is your soap made with animal products, are they vegan?

Yes and no. Our soap bases are made with all vegetable ingredients. There are some soaps that have additives that come from animals such as honey, milk and silk.

All other soaps are completely vegan and are marked as such.

How long will your soap last?

Handmade soaps need special care in that they require to be well drained. They should never sit in a dish which accumulates water. A draining soap dish works extremely well. Please see our wooden soap dishes for this purpose.

If you keep your soap well drained it will last about a month.
