Grown in Mexico and South America for over 5,000 years, chia seeds are best known for packing a big nutritional punch in a small little package. Kerry Neville, MS, RD from Food & Nutrition says they were even used by the Mayan and Aztec cultures for supernatural powers. If their supernatural powers include jingles from 1980s commercials getting stuck in your head for days, well then, I'm a believer!
Chia seeds are packed with fiber, protein, calcium, antioxidants, and omega-3s. They're great to throw into smoothies or muffins. Sprinkle some over your yogurt for a bit of crunch. You can even make some pretty cool puddings with them since they have the unique ability to thicken when added to a liquid.

Not only are chia seeds great for your inside, they're great for your outside, too! Chia seed oil is known to have anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties because of its high antioxidant and omega-3 fatty acids content. People who use it on the regular say it gives them a luminous glow.
Chia seed oil can also be used as a hair serum. With all that protein and its complex vitamin content it can help give your hair a beautiful, healthy shine. Just rub a few drops in between the palms of your hands and run through your hair before styling to help lock in your hair's moisture. I know I'll be grabbing some for that frizz factor with the humid weather coming up!
